Job Title:Agricultural Accountants Officer
Location: South Africa
Job Overview:
Thuso Enviro and Agric Development is looking for Agricultural Accounts officer.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
Inventory & Asset Management: Assisting with the management and reconciliation of inventory and fixed assets related to farming operations.
Financial Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintaining accurate financial records using accounting software (such as Sage Pastel or Business Central), processing daily transactions, and assisting with the preparation of management accounts, including balance sheets and income statements.
Accounts Payable & Receivable: Managing the full debtors and creditors function, processing invoices and payments, ensuring accuracy by cross-checking documentation, and following up on overdue payments.
Reconciliation & Auditing: Performing monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations and coordinating with internal and external auditors by providing necessary financial documentation.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Assisting with the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts, monitoring cash flow to ensure liquidity, and analyzing variances.
Cost Accounting & Analysis (Agriculture-Specific): Tracking costs associated with specific agricultural inputs like crop production, livestock management, machinery, labour, and other farm inputs, and providing insights into farm profitability and cost efficiency.
Payroll & HR Accounting: Processing monthly salaries and wages, managing related journals, and ensuring compliance with all payroll tax obligations.
Taxation & Compliance: Ensuring compliance with relevant South African tax laws (e.g., VAT, payroll taxes) and industry-specific accounting standards (e.g., IFRS).
Key Skills & Qualifications
Education: A relevant tertiary qualification, such as a degree or diploma in Accounting,Financial Management and Agricultural Economics.
Experience: A minimum of 0-5 years' relevant experience in an accounting environment, with experience in an agricultural production setting often considered a strong advantage.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage Pastel, QuickBooks) and strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel.
Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, time management, and effective communication abilities to liaise with farm managers and other stakeholders.
Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of farming operations, agricultural cycles, and market volatility can be beneficial.
