Multimedia and WebDesign

Course Description:

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the foundational concepts of multimedia and web design. Students will explore core principles, key terminologies, and essential skills needed to create dynamic and interactive web content. The curriculum is structured to progressively build upon fundamental knowledge, starting with basic web principles and culminating in advanced multimedia integration and design techniques.

Course Curriculum:

• Module 1: Introduction to Multimedia and Web Fundamentals & Terminologies 

  • This module introduces students to the basic concepts of multimedia, including its various components like text, images, audio, and video. It will also cover the foundational principles of the web, including a discussion of how the internet and World Wide Web work. Key terminologies, such as URL, HTML, CSS, and web browser, will be defined and explained.

• Module 2: HTML and HTML5 

  • Students will learn the core language of the web, HTML (HyperText Markup Language). This module focuses on structuring web pages using various HTML tags, including headings, paragraphs, lists, and links. The course will also cover the newer features of HTML5, such as semantic tags (e.g., <header>, <footer>, <nav>), and their importance in modern web development.

• Module 3: Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Formatting Text, Colors, and Backgrounds 

  • This module introduces CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), the language used for styling web pages. Students will learn how to apply styles to HTML elements to control their appearance, including text formatting, color schemes, and background properties. The focus will be on creating visually appealing and well-organized web content.

• Module 4: Transitions, Transforms, Sounds, and Videos 

  • Building on the CSS foundation, this module delves into more advanced styling and interactive elements. Students will learn how to create CSS transitions for smooth changes in style and CSS transforms to manipulate the size, position, and rotation of elements. The module also covers the integration of multimedia, specifically how to embed and control audio and video on web pages.

• Module 5: CSS Techniques 

  • This module expands on the use of CSS by exploring advanced techniques and best practices. Topics will include CSS layouts (e.g., Flexbox and Grid), responsive design to ensure websites look good on all devices, and the use of CSS preprocessors (e.g., Sass). Students will gain a deeper understanding of how to build complex and maintainable stylesheets.

• Module 6: Multimedia Skills and Design 

  • The final module synthesizes all the learned concepts into a practical application of multimedia design principles. Students will focus on the principles of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, learning how to create a positive and intuitive user experience. The course will conclude with a project that requires students to combine their HTML, CSS, and multimedia skills to design and develop a complete, functional website.
