Job Description

The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Financial & Accounting Manager to further your experience in an insurance/financial services environment.  The Primary Responsibilities for the Financial & Actuarial Manager are:

  • To have In-depth understanding of General ledger Process and month end close activities.
     
  • Supervises, coordinates, and directs the work activities of assigned employees
     
  • To understand financial statement and application of accounting principles.
     
  • Support the coordination and execution the consolidation and closing of the books.
     
  • Act as GL Administrator for 2 legal entities.
     
  • Be Tier 1 support for the CTO/Finance when incidents arise and engage with the managed service provider to resolve. 
     
  • Processing of financial accounting transactions into the general ledger, including collecting, recording, verifying, and reconciling financial data.
     
  • Reviewing of Journal Entries including Insurance and Banking entries.
     
  • To Review Bank and Control Account and initiate process for follow up on open items.
     
  • To develop process documentation that includes Standard Operating procedures and other Quality manuals as and when required.
     

Your Responsibilities:
The primary role of the Finance & Accounting Manager will be to manage a Finance & Accounting team in addition to performing GL Administration activities/Tier 1 support for incident management. 

The below outlines the main areas of responsibility:

  • Liaising with internal/external auditors for periodic and year-end review procedures for local statutory audits on core activities that clients are performing.
     
  • Review and analysis of journals at month end. 
     
  • Review and analysis of bank and Control Account reconciliations at month end. 
     
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and accounting standards.
     
  • Enhancement of existing processes and development of new ones to ensure the most efficient completion of duties.
     
  • Ensure robust operation of financial and reporting controls to safeguard the integrity of reporting data across all bases.  
     
  • Communication internally with clients (Ops/IT) and reporting to JVCo Head of Finance Management/Finance & Accounting manager on day-to-day operational issues, SLA performance, exceptions etc.
     
  • Responsibility for review and daily delivery of suite of reconciliations including bank reconciliations and premium/claims/commissions reconciliations.
     
  • Review of ledger journal entries, supporting files and other GL accounting activity as part of month end close process.
     
  • Oversight of the invoice processing and accounts payable procedures.
     
  • Responsibility for assigned accounting workflows/processes within the financial close process. 
     
  • Oversight of the cash management function for policyholder bank accounts including liquidity monitoring and ensuring transfers are completed.
     

In a GL Administration Capacity (indicative but not restricted to):
 

  • Responsibility for managing user groups (adding and removing users) and access to workflows (Roles, Signing limits, Organisational hierarchies) etc
     
  • Responsibility for maintenance of master data groups including suppliers, receivables, vendors, banks, posting rules, VAT codes, nominal account codes etc.
     

Act as Tier 1 support between the Company’s IT Service Desk and the Company’s Managed Service provider for MSD365.  This will involve triaging incidents and resolving or escalating to the managed service provider if a resolution isn’t possible.


Experience required:

  • Qualified accountant with 6/7+ years post qualification experience.
     
  • Good exposure to Life Insurance Industry with relevant Accounting experience.
     
  • Proven experience of leading and developing Finance teams.
     
  • Strong ability to apply analytical skills to business problems.
     
  • Proven management and staff development experience.
     
  • Knowledge of accounting reporting standards.
     
  • Excellent communication skills – able to address non-technical and non-technical audiences in formal and informal settings.
     
  • Detail orientation and exceptional organizational and communication skills.
     
  • First class academic record.
     
  • Exceptional analytical abilities and strong MS Excel skills.
     
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics or a similar ERP system.
     
  • A proactive, self-directed approach and the ability to learn quickly with a drive for continuous improvement.
     
  • A high sense of urgency and the ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment.
     
  • Flexibility as we continue to evolve processes and job responsibilities
     

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities 
 

  • Managing end to End service delivery and the offshore team
     
  • Responsible for ensuring that the exception management process and relationship with Customer Management is effective
     
  • Manage a team of finance professionals.
     

Liaise with the clients financial reporting team and their external auditors to demonstrate the impact of ineffective controls.
