Job Description
A medical biller, also known as an insurance billing specialist, manages a patient's medical costs and insurance claims. Their responsibilities include:
Preparing and submitting claims: Creating invoices, submitting claims to insurance companies, and following up on denied claims
Collecting payments: Calling patients to discuss payment plans, collecting accounts, and monitoring late payments
Managing patient data: Updating patient information in administrative systems and maintaining patient confidentiality
Ensuring accuracy: Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of billing information
Resolving issues: Investigating denied claims and outstanding patient invoices
Maintaining records: Maintaining Medicare bad-debt cost reports and tracking account activity
Following policies: Following policies and procedures, and reporting compliance issues
